I have had the privilege to meet and become friends with hundreds of people around the country; people, like me who are challenged every day by a chronic disease. I have gained so much from seeing the look on a child’s face who is inspired by my story and from hearing a parent tell me they now have comfort knowing their child is going to be okay – but that isn’t enough. Not only do I want to inspire and encourage people living with diabetes, I want to empower them to take steps to be healthy and active too.
That’s why I have created the Iron Andy Foundation and the Iron Andy Challenge. My commitment is to keep swimming, biking and running in the face of my disease in order to inspire and motivate others. My hope is that my Challenge will promote fitness, education and service throughout the diabetes community and help children with diabetes develop the positive attitude they need to live a long and healthy life.
Everything can be accomplished with a positive attitude, hard work and determination, including a long, active, happy and healthy life with diabetes.
